The Pastel Society of the Northern Rockies is a non-profit art group comprised of members from several states. The glue that holds this diverse group together is a love of the medium of soft pastel. Soft pastel is a rich medium that is almost pure pigment held together by only enough binder to form it into usable sticks.

The old masters' works done in pastel are as fresh today as the day they were painted. It was the binder in the pigment that caused their oil paintings to crack, while pastel was missing such binders. Today, when you visit a museum, you will see paintings and sketches done in this durable art medium by such masters as Degas, Cassatt, Monet and many others.

The Pastel Society of the Northern Rockies current exhibition at Brown's Gallery is a wonderful show of varied subject matter and styles. Visit us today!
